PNG is mainly methane – CH4 with a small percentage of other higher hydrocarbons. The ratio of carbon to hydrogen is least in methane and hence it burns almost completely making it the cleanest fuel. It is procured from the oil / gas wells and transported through a network of pipelines across the country

LPG is Liquefied Petroleum Gas and PNG is Piped Natural Gas. LPG is a mixture of Propane and Butane and is supplied in liquid form just as the name suggests in cylinders whereas PNG is mainly Methane supplied through a pipeline.
Yes, Absolutely. PNG is more advantageous than LPG. There are several reasons as to why PNG is more advantageous than LPG.

Availing the gas supply is a simple process. The process includes

  • Registration Form alongwith terms and Conditions
  • KYC Document – Identity and Ownership Proof /NOC from Owner
  • Payment for Facilities

Once you have completed the registration formalities by filling in the form and agreement document and pay the fixed amount to the Gas Company, the connection will be provided to you. Pipeline alongwith meter, valves and regulator will be installed in your house. Once this process is over, you will have uninterrupted supply of safe fuel gas available for your requirements.

Yes you can have a connection even if you live in a rented house. However, for this the landlord, the owner of the house will have to make an application or if you want to apply for it you will have to get a No Objection Certificate from the owner for the same.
  • Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) applicants have to pay Rs. 6,354/- per connection as per following: - Rs. 5,000/- interest free refundable security deposit & - Rs. 1,000/- interest free refundable security deposit towards gas consumption & - Rs. 354/- Non-Refundable Registration Fee (Rs. 54 towards GST)

No Cash payment is accepted by Bengal Gas Company Limited (BGCL). Beware of fraudulent Practices – Report immediately if any person ask for cash payment .

Yes, it is strongly recommended to use a gas stove that is specifically designed for Piped Natural Gas (PNG). Retrofitting a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) stove for PNG use can pose significant safety risks and efficiency issues. Key concerns include:
  • Safety Risks:Retrofitting can lead to issues such as flame lift, flame failure, and potential gas leaks due to differences in burning velocities and modifications in the stove's design.
  • Efficiency: LPG stoves, when retrofitted for PNG, may experience a significant drop in thermal efficiency, from around 68% to approximately 45-50%. This inefficiency not only increases gas consumption but also leads to higher greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Certification: Modifying an LPG stove invalidates its Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. The BIS has mandated that PNG stoves meet IS: 17153: 2019 standards and be certified accordingly.

  • To ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with standards, it is advisable to use dedicated high-efficiency PNG stoves that are BIS certified.
The consumer needs to surrender the subsidized Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connection under the Public Distribution System , (if any) obtained from Government Oil Company OR keep the subsidized LPG Connection in safe custody OR convert the subsidized LPG Connection to non - subsidized one, within sixty days of obtaining PNG connection from the seller, failing which the Seller shall have absolute right to disconnect the PNG connection provided to the consumer.
Yes, it is possible to make changes to your gas line if required subjected to technical feasibility and compliance with regulations. To proceed, please visit the Bengal Gas office or email the necessary details. After reviewing your request, the company will provide you with an estimate of the cost for the required modifications. No. there isn’t any storage space required; the Gas is transmitted via the Pipeline laid by Bengal Gas.
The Pipeline up to consumer’s kitchen is laid, owned and is the responsibility of Bengal Gas. In case of damage to the equipment installed at customer’s premises by the customer, applicable charges shall be recovered before replacement/rectification from the customer only. Underground low pressure pipes (poly ethylene) are laid till the building, and from the bottom of the building to individual residence GI pipes are used for piping.
The billing cycle for DPNG is bi-monthly, meaning it occurs after every 60 days, However, when consumers generate self-bills using the Swang app (available on Google Play Store for Android users), they can submit their meter readings starting from the 45th day from last billing.
Bills for DPNG are generated based on actual gas consumption. There are three main methods for bill generation:
  • Spot Billing: Our designated billing executives visit customers’ premises to take meter readings, which are then put into the Spot Billing App to generate the Bill.
  • Manual Billing: If a customer is unavailable during the Spot Billing visit, BGCL will contact the customer to request for a photo of the meter reading. If we do not receive a response within 3-5 days, a default bill is generated based on industry standards. This default bill will be marked as “Reading Status: DL” on the invoice, and the amount will be adjusted in future billing cycles once an actual reading is obtained.
  • Self-Billing Application: Currently available for Android users, the BGCL Self-Billing “SWANG App” allows consumers to manage their billing directly after the 45–60-days cycle.
  • To get started, you can:
    • Download the BGCL Self-Billing “SWANG App” from the Google Play store.
    • Log in using your registered mobile number.
    • Select your BP number.
    • Take a photo of your current meter reading.
    • Enter the reading into the app.
    • Process and save the entry.

    • Flammable limit of Natural Gas (NG) is 5-15% with air whereas for LPG it is 2 to 10% with air.
